Two telecommunication poles and a solar street lamp were left on the verge of collapse after being dragged by a container truck early Monday morning, March 30, in Pasay City.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. when a container truck accidentally snagged overhead lines. This caused two telecommunication poles and a solar lamp to nearly collapse, disrupting internet connections along Libertad Street at the corner of Arnaiz Avenue and Taft Avenue.
Rubiano said telecommunications companies Globe and Smart, along with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), were immediately informed and have begun working on the damaged lines.
According to PLDT, restoration of affected internet services may take three to five days as crews repair and reconnect the damaged facilities.
The mayor also directed authorities to cordon off the affected area to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety.
She further ordered the Traffic and Parking Management Office (TPMO), headed by Ferdinand Lee, to restrict the passage of large vehicles along the affected stretch. Only light vehicles are allowed while clearing operations and repairs are ongoing.
Additional motor vehicle assets from the City Engineering Office were deployed to help secure the area, while more TPMO personnel were assigned to manage traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the TPMO implemented a temporary closure of Colayco and Burgos Streets to ease congestion in the area.
