Children playing with lighter accidentally burn 3 trucks in Tondo

A fire reportedly sparked by children playing with a lighter in a parking lot quickly spread, damaging three trucks, residents said.

“Maliit lang na siga ang pinagsimulan at kumalat. Tatlong sasakyan pa ang nadamay (It started as a small flame, but it spread, and three vehicles got affected),” said Rian Gumayo, a resident of Tondominium, located beside the incident.

Gumayo, who lives on a high floor in Tondominium, told Manila Bulletin that he could hear loud explosions from his unit.

He added that the children often play with fire, which in this instance reached the parked vehicles in the Coleseo de Manila compound. “Makukulit na bata naman talaga oh (Kids can really be so mischievous),” he said.

The fire reportedly started around 11 a.m. on Monday, March 30, and lasted about 10 minutes before authorities arrived.

“Mabilis rumesponde, hindi rin tumagal kasi madami na agad dumating na bombero (They responded quickly, and it didn’t last long because many firefighters arrived immediately),” Gumayo added.

Neighbors said they saw thick plumes of smoke rising from the compound.

No injuries were reported, and the children ran off before emergency responders arrived.

Authorities reminded parents to monitor children playing with fire and said it has not yet been confirmed if the children involved have been identified.
