Police identified the suspects as “Ron,” 23; “Ard,” 33; “Ver,” 38; “Mark,” 33; and “RM,” 40, all residents of Barangay Cacarong Bata, Pandi, Bulacan.
According to Bulacan police director Col. Angel Garcillano, the incident occurred at around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, at EZ Solar in Purok 4, Barangay San Pedro, Bustos.
A concerned citizen was on his way home when he saw four unidentified men fleeing on two black motorcycles while carrying a backpack taken from the victims’ parked vehicle.
Upon checking the car, the witness noticed that its window had been broken and immediately informed the owners, identified as “Rom” and “Ica,” both residents of Barangay San Pedro.
The victims found that the left rear window of the vehicle had been shattered and their personal belongings were missing.
At around 12 a.m. on Monday, March 30, another witness reported to the Bustos Municipal Police Station that he had followed the fleeing suspects to Barangay Cacarong Bata.
This prompted Bustos police to coordinate with Pandi authorities for a follow-up operation.
At around 1:30 a.m., operatives tracked down the suspects in Padre Pio, Barangay Cacarong Bata, where they found the motorcycles and helmets believed to have been used in the crime.
When police approached one of the suspects, he attempted to flee but was immediately chased and arrested. The other suspects, who were inside the house, were also apprehended.
During a body search, a hand grenade inside a sling bag was recovered from “Ron,” while a Smith & Wesson caliber .38 revolver loaded with two live rounds of ammunition was seized from “Ard.”
Authorities also recovered the stolen items, including a black backpack, two gold rings, a gold watch, and cash amounting to P320,000.
The suspects are now in the custody of the Bustos police pending the filing of theft charges , violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives) before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Malolos City, Bulacan.
