2 suspects tagged in Sampaloc 'basag-kotse' incident surrender - Mayor Isko
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso presented to the public two men tagged in a series of "basag-kotse" incidents in the city, during a briefing held on Monday, March 30.
Domagoso said the two men, identified as Carim John Torres and John Paul Flores, were the ones involved in the viral basag-kotse robbery incident on Maceda Street in Sampaloc last Feb. 25.
One of the men surrendered to a Manila city councilor while his cohort surrendered to the Manila Police District (MPD) Intelligence Division following the mayor's warning.
During Domagoso's Talk to the People segment on Facebook, the suspects appealed for forgiveness and understanding for their crimes, saying that they just did it due to poverty and the need to provide for their families.
The police said they are still on the hunt for the lead man in the crime, identified as John Devhon Meneses, who is still at large.
Meanwhile, Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (SMART) Chief Lt. Col. Edward Samonte said the two men will not be placed under police custody as no one has yet filed charges against them.
"Maaari po silang magtungo at mag-file po ng kaukulang reklamo (They may proceed to our office and file charges against the suspects)," Samonte said.
Despite this, the mayor warned the two to not hide from the authorities once charges have been filed against them.
