VP Sara surprised by support from visiting personalities at Araw ng Dabaw parade

DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte said she was surprised after several visiting political figures expressed support for her possible 2028 presidential bid during the "Parada Dabawenyo," the highlight of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw celebration in Davao City.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event on Saturday, March 28, the Vice President said she did not expect the show of support, particularly from guests who are not from the city and who she does not personally know.
"I was surprised that many visitors who are not from Davao expressed support for my 2028 candidacy," Vice President Duterte said, adding that they also backed her call for justice over the alleged kidnapping of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Present during the parade were Sen. Christopher Lawrence Go, Cavite Rep. Francisco Barzaga, Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, former Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, and former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez.
Vice President Duterte clarified that, except for Barzaga, with who she worked during the 2022 campaign, she has no personal relationship with the visiting personalities. All the guests greeted the city and expressed support for the Dutertes.
"We welcome everyone to the celebration of Araw ng Dabaw. I had the same thought. Aside from Congressman Kiko Barzaga, who I was with during the 2022 campaign, I do not know them. They are not my friends," Vice President Duterte said.
She recalled that her interaction with Guanzon had been limited and strictly official. She added that she only met Guanzon again at this event, with the first was when she was the presiding officer at the Commission on Elections.
"The first time I saw her was when we applied for Hugpong ng Pagbabago, and we did not even have a conversation," she said, adding that she appreciates the support, which she said reflects the Davaoeños' sentiments during the city's annual celebration.
Vice President Duterte emphasized that she is not currently focused on political alignments or building a Senate slate for the upcoming elections, despite being approached by some groups and individuals.
"For now, I am not thinking about that. Although I have declared my candidacy, I am a presumptive candidate for the 2028 presidential elections. But I am not planning for it at this time," the Vice President said.
She emphasized that her priority remains her duties at the Office of the Vice President and addressing the needs of the people. Like the impeachment issue, she added that it is not her priority right now.
"Many of our fellow Filipinos are still calling for genuine love and service from the government," Vice President Duterte said. "At the OVP, that is our focus. Even if our office is small, we are all working together and thinking of ways to help the people."
