VP Sara backed for prez in 2028

DAVAO CITY – Several political figures backed Vice President Sara Duterte for president in 2028 during events marking the 89th Araw ng Dabaw and the 81st birthday of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Saturday.
Vice President Duterte's youngest brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, openly declared his preference for her as the country's next leader, urging those present at the event to support her candidacy.
Mayor Duterte commended the guests and attendees who, he said, continued to speak out despite challenges, describing them as individuals with "revolutionary hearts" who stand for truth amid current national issues.
Former Commission on Elections Commissioner and lawyer Rowena Guanzon pledged support for the Vice President, citing her long-standing belief in the Duterte family's leadership.
Guanzon recalled her early encounter with the former Chief Executive in Davao City during the transition period of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., describing the Duterte patriarch as a decisive figure amid political upheaval.
She emphasized the need for unity across political affiliations, calling on Filipinos – regardless of party alignment – to set aside differences and rally behind Sara for the country's future. "If she will not be the president, no one will be held accountable."
Guanzon underscored the need for government reform, advocating "zero corruption and zero tolerance," and expressed confidence that the incumbent Vice President has the strength and character to lead the country.
Isabela Vice Mayor and Lawyer Jeryll Harold Respicio echoed similar sentiments, claiming strong support for the Duterte family among constituents in Luzon, particularly among Ilocanos. "Isabela is a solid Duterte."
Respicio criticized the current administration and alleged missed opportunities to restore public trust, and opposed efforts to impeach Vice President Duterte, which he claimed could affect her chances in the 2028 elections.
Former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez highlighted the significance of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration, linking it to the legacy of then Mayor and President Duterte.
Rodriguez called on supporters to continue praying for the former Chief Executive's well-being and emphasized the resilience of Mindanao's people in the face of historical and political challenges.
The former Executive Secretary urged the public to uphold former President Duterte's legacy by continuing his programs and principles and remain vigilant against corruption in government.
Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, who attended the event and greeted the people of Davao and the former President, expressed appreciation for Davao City, describing it as a clean, safe, and promising tourist destination.
Leviste, who invited the people of Davao to Manila, encouraged domestic tourism and highlighted the importance of celebrating local achievements and community pride despite ongoing national concerns and challenges.
Cavite Rep. Francisco Barzaga, who also joined the event, acknowledged the city's successes and the challenges facing the country and urged Filipinos to take time to recognize milestones such as the Araw ng Dabaw.
Also in attendance were Sen. Christopher Lawrence Go, Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II, second district Rep. Omar Duterte, third district Rep. Isidro Ungab, and Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat party-list Rep. Harold Duterte.
