The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported minor Strombolian activities at Mayon Volcano on Sunday, March 29, generating ash plumes that rose about 500 meters before drifting southwest.
According to the agency, the Strombolian events occurred at 12:30 a.m. and 6:46 a.m., as captured in time-lapse footage from its monitoring teams.
The agency added that the effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano has continued for the 83rd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or “uson,” and rockfalls.
Phivolcs noted that Alert Level 3 continues to prevail over Mayon, and entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited.
The agency said that under Alert Level 3, Mayon is in a relatively high state of unrest, with increased chances of hazardous eruptions.
It warned that lava flows, pyroclastic density currents, ashfall, and rockfalls may continue to pose risks, particularly within the six-kilometer PDZ.
