Around P25 million worth of counterfeit bags were confiscated in a raid conducted by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Binondo, Manila.
CIDG director Robert AA Morico II said six people were collared during the joint operation with personnel from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Barangay 29 on March 26.
“The arrested suspects were caught while selling and trading brand new bags without the required minimum labeling and permits/license from the DTI,” said Morico.
He said the operation was conducted based on confirmed reports of the selling of counterfeit bags in the store where around P25 million worth of bags were confiscated.
He said they filed charges of violations of Republic Act No. 3883 (An Act to Regulate the Use in Business Transactions of Names other than True Names); Article 77 (Minimum Labeling Requirements for Consumer Products) of Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of The Philippines); and Republic Act No. 8293 (The Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) against the arrested suspects.
“This crackdown underscores the CIDG’s aggressive stance against all violations of law. We assure the public that we are resolute in enforcing all the laws, and relentless on in its fight against all forms of illegal activity and criminality to protect the consumers and general public,” said Morico.
