Meralco quickly picked up the pieces from its first taste of defeat and took down Titan Ultra, 118-105, in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, March 29.
There was no power shortage for the Bolts this time as CJ Cansino and Marvin Jones sparked the breakaway that saw their team lead by as many as 28 points en route to their third win in four games.
Cansino showed the way with 26 points, six rebounds and five assists while Jones had 24 points and 14 rebounds. Bong Quinto and Jason Brickman provided support with 15 and 13 while Javee Mocon added 11.
The Bolts bounced back from a stinging 102-109 loss to an import-less Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Although the Bolts erected a huge 86-58 lead, they still needed to survive a huge fourth quarter effort from the Giant Risers led by rookie Bryan Sajonia.
Titan Ultra even came within 10, 85-95, after a blistering 20-6 run capped by five straight points from Sajonia. Meralco, however, stopped the bleeding after big hits from Cansino, Quinto and Brickman.
The loss wasted Sajonia’s breakout game of 29 points while import Michael Gilmore added 25 points and 16 rebounds — all of which were not enough as Titan Ultra dropped to a 1-4 slate.
