KALIBO, Aklan – The Iloilo City government has created a crisis management council to address major economic and social concerns from the impact of the energy crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Mayor Raisa Treñas established the council in Executive Order No. 035-2026 to address the continuing rise in fuel prices, limited supply, and other energy challenges negatively impacting the public.
The council established on Saturday, March 28, is in line with the national energy emergency declaration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
One of the main functions of the Iloilo City Crisis Management Council is to “safeguard economic stability and monitor price changes while protecting vulnerable sectors and disadvantaged communities from adverse effects caused by the ongoing
crisis.”
The council must also “ensure continuity of the operation of public transportation and public utilities, delivery of services, and functioning of healthcare facilities and other critical infrastructure.”
The council was also tasked to formulate medium- and long-term localized solutions and strategies to decrease consumption of petroleum products.
Treñas said the council composed of City Hall department heads must strengthen coordination with national government agencies as well as private sector and civil society organizations to ease the impact of the fuel crisis.
