TNT import Bol Bol seemed to be finally getting accustomed not only to the attention he’s been getting from the fans and media but also to the overall brand of play in the PBA.
The 7-foot-3 beanpole had the chance to defend nine-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and he passed it with flying colors after putting up 34 points, 18 rebounds and a block to lead TNT to a 118-92 drubbing of San Miguel.
He was also defending Fajardo inside the paint, utilizing all of his 7-foot-7 wingspan to alter the shot of the 6-foot-10 center.
Making himself available for media interviews for the first time since his arrival, Bol gave credit to his teammates in helping him limit Fajardo to just 15 points and 20 rebounds.
“I knew he would just take me because he was very physical so I just give my props to my teammates for helping me on the board and even when he has the ball and just crowding him and making it hard for him,” Bol said.
“I think I’m just getting used to the physicality and getting my teammates involved. I think that’s what has gotten us the last two wins,” said the former NBA player.
Offensively, Bol is proving to be the unicorn that the league had never seen until his arrival. He was averaging 37.33 points and 16.3 rebounds a game and he was just starting to feel his way in the team and in the PBA according to head coach Chot Reyes.
“He’s getting more used to it,” Reyes said of Bol.
“When we were playing our first game, that was just our second game together. We were only able to get one tuneup game in the preseason so now this game is the fourth game together so hopefully we continue improving,” he added
“I think we’re good. It was hard the first game, but after these last three games, I’m getting used to it. And they’re getting used to playing with me now, too,” Bol echoed Reyes’ observation.
“It's a question of him adjusting to the PBA style of play and him adjusting to his teammates and his teammates adjusting to him,” added the veteran coach.
