Why fine jewelry is more than adornment

How Mayet Dela Rosa builds a fine jewelry brand rooted in meaning, craftsmanship, and everyday luxury

For the longest time, fine jewelry has served as the ultimate status symbol. These wearable works capture what human skill and nature’s gifts can achieve when combined. They are the perfect finishing touch to one’s look, with their allure and timeless elegance. For some, these pieces—made of precious stones and metals—are the embodiment of their dreams, making every purchase a personal one, not just for the buyer but for the seller as well.
Mayet Dela Rosa, the leader of her namesake fine jewelry brand, understands this best: jewelry is an emotional purchase. For her, jewelry isn’t just a mere adornment, but a manifestation of the dreams she has built over decades.
“The passion started with my brother,” Mayet told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “He used to sell jewelry, which helped me earn a degree in Chemistry. Eventually, I discovered my passion for selling jewelry as well.”
Soon enough, she grew her business, establishing around 19 outlets in Metro Manila and nearby provinces like Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Antipolo, with a store at Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig City as the latest addition. Many of the pieces sold in Mayet Dela Rosa (MDLR) Fine Jewelry stores are sourced abroad, but the brand also has a workshop in Bulacan for custom-made pieces.
Luxury meant for every day
Since 2001, MDLR Fine Jewelry has rooted its brand in artistry, authenticity, and trust. Through the years, it has offered its clientele timeless designs that echo emotional storytelling and enduring value, with the help of its skilled artisans.
“Craftsmanship is very important to us,” Mayet says. “We focus not only on sparkle but also on structure. Our settings are designed to be durable and secure, so the diamonds can be worn every day with confidence. For us, a beautiful piece should not be delicate in use. It should last, shine consistently, and remain part of someone’s life for many years.”
A testament to this is the brand’s 2026 jewelry collection, featuring natural diamonds. Before highlighting gold pieces, Mayet first dedicated her business to showcasing diamond pieces. The unveiling of the collection, for Mayet, feels like a full-circle moment, reflecting on when she started her brand over 20 years ago. The collection reinterprets the traditional engagement ring through a full-circle diamond concept.
The opening of the store also marks the introduction of the Original Monaco collection, a line featuring gold chains designed for everyday wear. This collection reflects what the brand hopes for its customers: to own something special that will remind them of meaningful moments every day.
“For us, the creative vision was to introduce a bold chain that feels substantial when you see it, yet comfortable when you wear it,” Mayet says. “We wanted pieces that give presence and confidence but do not weigh you down or cause inconvenience. That’s why the collection fits well into our sculptural direction. The pieces become the centerpiece of an outfit, not just an accessory.”
Exploring different platforms
In an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, Mayet shared that her store in Manila City is one of the branches that generates strong profit. The new store in Taguig City, however, offers a different kind of experience, from personal consultations to exploring a more curated collection.
Despite having a number of physical stores, Mayet understands the importance of a strong digital presence. In the past, she has led online selling sessions through the brand’s social media platforms. To further strengthen its digital visibility, the brand plans to expand with the launch of Maison Mayet Diamonds at Parkway Corporate Center in Filinvest Alabang. More than a showroom, the 24-hour facility will function as a dedicated hub for authorized online sellers, while also offering inventory access, a space for professional live sellers, and shipping support.
“Today, clients want more,” Mayet muses. “They want meaning, clarity, and confidence in what they’re buying. Luxury now is more than just appearance—it is about trust.”
MDLR Fine Jewelry’s newest store is located on Level 1 of Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig City.
