Mayor Vico reminds student-athletes to prioritize education alongside extracurricular activities

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto reminded student-athletes to prioritize their education while staying active in extracurricular activities, following the city’s recognition of 268 young Pasigueño athletes who won medals at the National Capital Region (NCR) Palaro 2026.
The recognition ceremony was also attended by other city officials, including Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski.
During their speech, city officials emphasized the importance of character development among the youth through sports.
According to them, sports are not only about winning but also about instilling discipline, striving for excellence, and shaping one’s character.
The local government said the city was named 1st runner-up overall best-performing schools division office in the 2026 NCR Palaro (including Paragames, elementary, and secondary categories), where Pasigueño athletes brought home the following:

Bronze: 8The 268 athletes represented 45 schools in Pasig City, consisting of 15 private schools, 17 public elementary schools, and 13 public secondary schools.
Out of all medalists, 94 athletes will advance to the Palarong Pambansa 2026 to be held in Agusan del Sur as part of the NCR Metro Stars delegation. Of these, 66 athletes are from public schools (nine elementary and 10 secondary schools), while the remaining 28 athletes come from 11 private schools in the city.
In addition, the student-athletes also received cash incentives based on the medals they earned in the NCR Palaro 2026.
Other city officials also extended their congratulations, expressing pride in the achievements of the young athletes.
The local government extended its heartfelt gratitude to all young delegates of Pasig who represented the city with excellence and dedication in various competitions.
It also recognized the unwavering support of coaches, teachers, and families as a vital part of the success.
“Ang inyong sipag, tiyaga, at determinasyon ay patuloy na nagbibigay-inspirasyon at dangal sa buong lungsod. Lubos kayong ipinagmamalaki ng Pasig! (Your hard work, perseverance, and determination continue to inspire and bring pride to the entire city. Pasig is truly proud of you!),” it said.
