Marcos urges Filipinos to conserve energy, join Earth Hour
President Marcos has called on Filipinos to take part in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28, and adopt energy-saving habits, stressing the importance of conservation amid the ongoing global energy crisis.
In a video message, the President said this year’s observance, themed “Switch on Habits for Earth,” is especially relevant as the country faces rising fuel costs and global uncertainties.
“This year's event provides a timely and relevant opportunity… to conserve energy and to limit fuel consumption amid the current global crisis,” he said.
He emphasized that energy use has a direct impact on both the environment and the country’s future.
“Earth Hour reminds us that how we use energy affects us all… and the kind of future that we choose to build,” he added.
Marcos encouraged Filipinos to participate in the annual lights-off activity and embrace sustainable practices.
“The simple act of turning off our lights for one hour goes a long way,” he said.
Beyond one hour
Marcos said the significance of Earth Hour goes beyond a symbolic gesture and should translate into lasting behavioral change.
“May the true meaning of Earth Hour be part of our lives starting tonight,” he said.
“Let it guide our habits, inform our actions, and inspire cooperation among our communities towards responsible and sustainable energy use,” he added.
The President expressed hope that collective action will help build a more sustainable future for the country.
“Together, let us ensure that the light of the Filipino spirit continues to shine with hope for a brighter future for all,” he said.
