Magnitude 4.9 earthquake jolts Davao Occidental — Phivolcs

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental at 11:33 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the quake’s epicenter was located 28 kilometers northeast of Sarangani Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental, at a depth of 189 kilometers.
The tremor was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in General Santos City and Malungon in Sarangani and Tupi and Polomolok in South Cotabato.
Intensity I shaking (scarcely perceptible) was also registered in Malapatan, Sarangani.
Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity III in M'lang, Cotabato and Maasim and Malungon in Sarangani; Intensity II in Tupi, South Cotabato; and Intensity I in Digos City in Davao del Sur, Jose Abad Santos, in Davao Occidental, Kiamba in Sarangani, and T'Boli in South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
It added that aftershocks are not expected from the event.
