Battle-tested Letran held its ground and repelled rival San Beda, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, to forge a Finals trilogy against reigning champion College of St. Benilde in the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball tournament at San Andres Sports Complex in Manila Saturday, March 28.
With their redemption bid on the line in Game 3 of the semifinals, the Lady Knights, led by Judiel Nitura, displayed poise and grit -- dominating the first two sets, faltering in the third, then regrouping just tin time to put away the Lady Red Spikers for good.
Nitura starred with 18 points for Letran, while Vanessa Sarie and Gia Maquilang backstopped with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The hard-fought victory sent Letran to its third straight championship showdown with four-peat-seeking St. Benilde, which had beaten the Intramuros-based squad in the last two Finals. The Lady Blazers secured a finals berth at the expense of the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas in Game 2 of their own semis duel.
It marked a strong bounce-back from Letran after absorbing its first loss – ending a 15-game winning streak – in Game 2 against San Beda, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, last Wednesday, March 25.
Game 1 is set on Sunday, April 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
