ILOILO CITY – A town in the island-province of Guimaras is preparing for Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid 2026, the reenactment of the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Mayor John Edward Gando of Jordan is inviting devotees to witness the 48th Pagtaltal on Good Friday, April 3, that will culminate atop the Balaan Bukid (Holy Mountain) in Barangay Hoskyn.
Started in 1975 by Aquilino “Quiling” Secusana, this year’s Pagtaltal has 184 Biblical characters telling the story of the death and Resurrection of Jesus.
Much of the reenactment takes place at the municipal grounds of Jordan, including when Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem, the plot against Him, the betrayal of apostle Judas Iscariot, and the Way of the Cross.
The reenactment makes it way to several locations in the town leading to Balaan Bukid, where the final culmination of Jesus’ death and Resurrection takes place.
Aside from devotees stopping at each of the 14 Stations of the Cross, Balaan Bukid is a popular local attraction for visitors for a hike and a view of the skyline of Iloilo City.
The Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid Foundation is leading the preparations. It is backed by Rep. JC Rahman Nava, Gov. Maria Lucille Nava, Gando, Vice Mayor Anna Nava, and the local government of Jordan.
