Ginebra eyes quick bounce back vs sloppy Converge

The Kings are coming off a tough 118-113 loss to the NLEX Road Warriors and they are hoping to swiftly turn things around against the FiberXers who are still groping for form after four games into the mid-season conference.

Tip-off of the clash is at 7:30 p.m. 

Setting up the table is another entertaining duel between Titan Ultra and Meralco at 5:15 p.m. The Giant Risers are looking to ride the momentum from its win over San Miguel while Meralco, like Ginebra, is hoping to pick up the pieces after its loss to Rain or Shine.

But all eyes should be on the main event featuring the FiberXers and the Kings — their first meeting since their thrilling two-game quarterfinals duel in the Philippine Cup.

Things, however, have changed since then with Converge racking up with weapons during the offseason, although some of its top guns in Calvin Abueva and Juan Gomez de Liano are still grounded by injuries.

Currently on a three-game slide, the FiberXers are hoping to arrest the losing skid with Alec Stockton, Justine Baltazar, Justin Arana, import Kylor Kelly and Mikey Williams, who is slowly but surely getting his groove back.

Easier said than done, however, especially with Ginebra raring to bounce back after wasting a 45-point effort from Justin Brownlee against NLEX.

“If we came up too much with an offensive type of game, I would prefer 30 points by Justin and hold the other team down rather than having us back and forth, and deal with a lot of back and forth scoring,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone.

“That’s a little bit of a frustrating night. We scored 113 points and we should have won the game and that didn’t happen tonight. So we’re a little bit upset about it.”

Ginebra even took a 112-106 lead inside the last five minutes only to allow NLEX to make a run with Robert Bolick draining a clutch triple that put the Road Warriors ahead for good.
