Cops seize P150 M worth of 'substandard' products in Cavite raid, P11.7 M cooking oil in Benguet

Police seized around P150 million worth of what they described as substandard and unregistered products in a raid in one of the units of an industrial zone in Noveleta, Cavite.
Maj. Gen. Robert AA Morico II, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the seized products include footwear, cosmetics, electronic equipment and telecommunication and electronic gadgets.
He said the operation also resulted in the arrest of two business partners, a Chinese and a Filipino, tagged as involved in the packaging, sale, and storage of the confiscated footwear, cosmetics, electronic gadgets and equipment.
“While the business operation of the warehouse is duly registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the products packaged, stored and sold were not duly registered,” said Morico.
“This indicates non-compliance with DTI regulations and rendering the packaging, sale, and distribution of these items unlawful,” he added.
In Benguet, CIDG operatives also confiscated around P11.7 million worth of cooking oil which was allegedly being sold illegally.
Morico said four people were collared during the March 26 operation in Barangay Puguis in La Trinidad town, for alleged involvement in selling and distribution of unregistered cooking oil.
“The distribution and selling of the substandard cooking oil is a clear circumvention of food safety standards requirements by the government. Since these food products have not gone through the evaluation process of the Food and Drugs Administration, its quality and safety cannot be assured,” he said.
Appropriate criminal charges were already filed against all the arrested suspects in the two operations.
