Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested four Chinese for forcing a foreigner and six Filipinos to engage in an online love scam scheme during a rescue operation in Pasay City.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert AA Morico II said the operation stemmed from the request for assistance by a Malaysian national about a Chinese friend who was allegedly being detained by his four employers in condominium unit in Pasay City.
CIDG operatives and Bureau of Immigration agents swooped down on a residential condo in Pasay City last week and resulted in the rescue of the foreign victims and the four Chinese suspects.
During the search, six Filipino women also asked the police to be rescued, claiming that they were being forced to engage in an online scam.
“These six Filipino women were hired and working as Customer Service Representative (CSR), and according to them, they were being forced and manipulated by the Chinese employers to conduct and engage in a deceitful scheme of enchanting foreign nationals to fall in love with them,” said Morico.
He said the scheme is similar to the online love scam as the objective is to gain money from the foreigner-victims.
The medical examination on the foreign victim revealed that he has abrasions and bruises in the different parts of his body, and during the interview he pointed his employers as the perpetrators.
The victim said he was detained, confined and isolated inside a room in the condominium tower.
The arrested suspects face cases of violations of violation of Article 267 (Serious Illegal Detention) and Article 286 (Grave Coercion) of the Revised Penal Code.
