CEBU CITY – Preparations for the influx of passengers for the upcoming Holy Week are in full swing.
Activating its “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation” on Saturday, March 28, the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) placed all ports in Cebu under heightened alert to intensify security, safety, and passenger assistance measures.
The heightened alert status will take effect until April 5.
Due to the current global oil crisis, CPA said it has adopted proactive measures to address its impact on maritime operations.
CPA advised passengers to expect possible adjustments in ticket fares and limited vessel capacities.
It further advised passengers to book tickets in advance or online, as operational constraints linked to fuel costs have prompted shipping companies to implement passenger limits.
CPA also reminded passengers to remain vigilant against illegal ticketing activities, and immediately report scalpers or unauthorized sellers charging inflated prices.
The CPA said it is reviewing its existing regulations and policies, including the possible adjustment of port charges, to help mitigate increasing operational expenses while ensuring continued delivery of efficient port services.
CPA finalized its preparations for the expected surge of passengers earlier this week through its Port Security, Safety, and Environmental Management Department (PSSEMD), in close coordination with port management offices and maritime enforcement partners.
Based on CPA data, more than 540,000 passengers traveled through Cebu ports during the 2025 Semana Santa and summer period.
