3 Pakistani nationals arrested in General Santos City -- BI

Three Pakistani nationals have been arrested by agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in General Santos City for alleged violations of immigration laws.
The BI identified the two of them as Arslan Ali, 30, and Suleman Ali, 28, who were arrested last March 17 by operatives of the bureau’s Intelligence Division-Mindanao Intelligence Task Group (MITG), in coordination with elements of the Philippine Army and the General Santos City Police Office.
It said that Arslan and Suleman were at a surplus vehicle display center located along Apopong National Highway, Barangay Sinawal, General Santos City at the time of their arrest and were found actively engaged in business operations despite lack of appropriate work visas.
It also said that Arslan had overstayed in the country for nearly five years and even admitted to having a pending deportation case. Suleman on the other hand, was found to be holding a tourist visa.
A third Pakistani national, identified as Mudassar Miraj, was also encountered during the operation.
The BI said that Mudassar’s work visa had expired in February 2026, but he claimed that he has a pending application for extension. He was also taken into custody for verification.
It said that Arslan, Suleman and Mudassar will be charged with violation of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 for overstaying and for engaging in gainful employment without the proper visa or permit.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said: “Foreign nationals who choose to stay and work in the Philippines must strictly comply with our laws."
Viado warned: “Those who deliberately violate the terms of their stay will be arrested, detained, and deported. This is a clear message that we are serious in protecting our borders, our labor market, and the integrity of our immigration processes."
