BACOLOD CITY – Three minors were killed in a motorcycle-bus collision in Hacienda Elenita, Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday night, March 27.
Police identified the fatalities as Rolly, 17; Jay-r, 13, and Kim Jay, 17, all residents of Barangay Burgos.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victims overtook a motorcycle and reportedly speeding on their way to a store when they overshot and rammed a bus traveling to Cadiz City from this highly-urbanized city on the opposite lane.
Loreno said the bus was slowly moving towards a curve as a passenger was supposed to disembark. The area was also not well-lighted, she added.
Loreno said that Rolly was driving his mother’s motorcycle but their families said they had no idea that the victims were together at that time.
She said the victims were neighbors and working in a sugarcane field. The younger victim was supposed to graduate from elementary, she added.
Vallacar Transit Inc. will extend burial assistance to the victims’ families, according to Loreno. Both parties will meet on Monday, March 30, to finalize the settlement.
The 36-year-old bus driver has been released from police custody, Loreno said.
