EDCOM 2 commends Muntinlupa for allotting P1-B for education
The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) commended the Muntinlupa City government for allotting P1 billion a year for education.
(The City Government of Muntinlupa is a solid LGU! ?? There is P1B per year for education and there are indeed projects for early childhood education! The Mayor, Congress, Sangguniang Bayan, the SDO, as well as parents and teachers are really focused on educational programs. The people of Muntinlupa are doing great!),” EDCOM 2 posted on Facebook.
Biazon recently called a meeting with stakeholders to discuss a report on struggling readers in Muntinlupa based on the Comprehensive Rapid Literacy Assessment (CRLA) conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd).
The meeting was attended by Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, SDO Muntinlupa, councilors, principals, teachers, school parent-teacher association and barangay captains.
Biazon said there are still challenges in education in Muntinlupa.
It is also clear that the solution for our learners is more effective if we are more strategic in our interventions. Here in Muntinlupa, we allocate more than P1 billion per year for education—from scholarships and free school supplies to reduce barriers to children’s education and reduce family expenses, to teacher-training programs, especially in beginning reading),” the mayor said.
He said the city government is also focused on early childhood development and promotion of proper health and nutrition among children through the Early Childhood Education Division. There are 86 Child Development Centers in Muntinlupa.
Before children go to school, the city government has nutrition programs for their first 1,000 days which are included in the Womb to Work Program.
Hindi ito solusyon na overnight makakamit, but we are on the right track (I have also proposed this before that we want to establish a localized EDCOM in Muntinlupa to better focus on measures in the education sector. This is not a solution that can be achieved overnight, but we are on the right track),” said Biazon.
