BACOLOD CITY – Barangays 6 and Montilla topped this year’s Magayon Hinuptanan 2026 street dance and arena competition in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, March 24.
Barangay 6, representing Category A for small barangays, and Barangay Montilla, representing Category B for large barangays, received P500,000 and P1-million worth of barangay projects.
Barangay Montilla led by Captain Nenita Alconera also received special awards for best in headdress, costume display, street dance, final showdown, and choreography.
Under Category A, Barangays 1 and 5 placed second and third place. In Category B, Barangays Odiong and Magallon Cadre placed second and third.
Barangay Montilla Councilor Romulo Fajardo Jr., chairman of the Committee on Culture, said their victory is a testament that a small budget of P200,000 can win the title.
“We only showcased a clean, light, and good storyline focusing on an easy-to-follow narrative that lets the audience relax, understand, and without over complication,” he added.
Fajardo said they gave their best but did not win any awards last year. This year, they focused on what is best for their barangay – avoiding overspending because they have many plans for the community.
Fajardo said the P1-million prize will enable them to realize their projects for their constituents, particularly a water system.
“We will discuss this in our next session. For now, we savor our victory, as it has been so many years since our last win,” he added.
Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo thanked people who supported and participated in this year’s festival while the town is still recovering from the effects of typhoon ‘’Tino’’ last year.
She said they made the celebration simple this year to thank the Lord for His blessings.
