The Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), the Philippines' official sanctioning body for all automobile-related motorsports, said it is pausing all sanctioned motorsports events until further notice.
In its announcement, the AAP cited President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr's recent Executive Order (EO) No. 110, which declared a State of National Energy Emergency in light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The AAP notes that motorsports is still predominantly dependent on petroleum-based fuels, and acknowledges its responsibility to support national energy conservation efforts, particularly the government's Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) initiative.
To help ensure supply stability during this critical period, AAP has decided to temporarily suspend the issuance of organizing permits for all AAP-sanctioned motorsports events until further notice. The AAP will monitor developments and will issue updates once conditions allow for the resumption of normal operations.
The AAP is the local agency deputized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA); an international organization whose sport division is a governing body for many international motorsport championships and disciplines, including Formula One.
Sanctioned races on hold
In light of this announcement, several sanctioned national motorsports events have expressed their support of the AAP's decision and have announced the suspension of some of their planned activities this year.
Among them is Toyota Motor Philippines. Organizer of the Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup), the carmaker put all its planned races for 2026 on hold due to the ongoing national energy crisis. In a statement posted on its social media page, Toyota Motor Philippines and Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines said that they are suspending all sanctioned motorsports activities and will place all its upcoming racing events on hold until further notice. The carmaker recently held the first of several rounds in Cavite just a few weeks ago.
The TGR Philippine Cup plays host to both the Toyota Vios one-make race and Toyota Tamaraw one-make race.
Another racing series, the Philippine National Rally Championship, which was supposed to kick off this March 27 to 28 in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro is also postponing the event until further notice.
Mazda Philippines, an active participant in motorsports events announced it is also suspending its endurance racing efforts this year. It will not participate in the 2026 Makabayan Cup, the first leg of which is the 4-hour Kagitingan Cup slated this April 18 to 19 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
