TACLOBAN CITY – A total of 2,260 police personnel will be deployed to ensure a safe and orderly Holy Week in Eastern Visayas.
Police Brig. Gen. Jayson Capoy, Police Regional Office-8 director, said that they will be strategically assigned to key gathering spots throughout the region starting March 29.
Six-hundred eighty-three will be assigned to 240 places of worship; 150 major roads with 415 personnel; 107 transportation hubs and terminals with 224 personnel; 217 commercial areas with 386 personnel, and 206 other gathering sites with 552 personnel.
They will be supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine Coast Guard, other law enforcement partners, and volunteers from advocacy groups and civic organizations.
Capoy urged the public to stay alert, cooperate with authorities, and report any suspicious activities immediately.
Meanwhile, the PRO-8 held the All-Women Sportsfest 2026 in celebration of National Women’s Month on Thursday.
The event kicked off with Zumba Lakas Juana, a wellness session that set an upbeat tone for the day followed by the Bilis ni Juana Footrace.
The race was participated in by female personnel from provincial and city police offices, Regional Mobile Force Battalion-8, and the regional headquarters.
Female representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Police Commission (Napolcom), and various prosecutor’s offices also joined the volleyball and pickleball competitions.
Capoy said the celebration is more than just a series of activities.
“It highlights their commitment to uphold gender equality and recognize the vital contributions of women in the police service.”
“We continue to foster respect, inclusivity, and unity within our ranks,” he added.
Earlier this month, Capoy treated female personnel from the regional headquarters to a spa day.
