Tesla now has a model that can seat more than five people. That vehicle is the new Model Y L. L likely refers to the vehicle’s length as it is 179 mm longer than the standard Model Y. This extended length allows it to fit a third row of seating, which makes the Model Y L a three-row, six-seater.
Six-seater BEV
Unlike most MPVs, the Model Y L doesn’t feature a standard bench seat with a 60:40 split in the second row. Instead, this model features two separate seats in the second row. These two seats feature power armrests that rise out of the seat base with just the press of a button.
This seating arrangement leaves a narrow aisle for passengers to walk through to get to the third row. The backrest of either of the second row seats can also be folded forward to grant easier access. Finally, the third row itself has a bench-style seat with a 50:50 split. Tesla recommends that only two passengers sit here.
Besides the unique seating arrangement, the Model Y comes with all the same features offered in the standard Model Y. Unique to this variant are a larger 16-inch center touchscreen, an 8-inch rear touchscreen, and a black headliner. There’s also the power inner armrests on the second row, and air vents for third row passengers.
The Model Y L also gets even more cargo space, boasting of 2,539 liters of space (maximum)—up from 2,138 liters in the regular Model Y. This is thanks to the deep cargo tray behind the last row at the cost of no spare tire.
Longer drives
The Model Y L comes in just one variant. It’s powered by a dual motor setup to give it all-wheel drive and 514-hp. This can rocket it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Its top speed is 201 km/h. It’s all powered by an 88.2-kWh lithium-ion battery that can deliver a claimed range of 681-kilometers (WLTP) from a full charge.
The Model Y L rolls on 19-inch wheels and suspension that keeps the body riding over harsh bumps with unique spring and damper tuning as well as frequency-selective dampers.
The Model Y L is available in three colors. The exclusive Cosmic Silver option comes with a two-tone black/white interior, and enhanced Auto Pilot or Full Self-Driving Capability. This option also comes at an extra cost.
Tesla has yet to announce when the Model Y L may be ordered. Simply that reservations may be placed for the vehicle after this coming Holy Week. The Model Y L starts at P2,849,000. Naturally, the vehicle is covered by a four-year or 80,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty. Its battery and drive unit are covered by an eight-year or 192,000 kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.
