Man nabbed for stealing P1.19-M gold jewelry, watches from employer in Marikina
A 36-year-old man was arrested for stealing around P1,194,000 worth of valuable items, including gold jewelry and Rolex watches, from his former employer in Marikina City in 2023.
The Eastern Police District (EPD) identified the suspect as “Apeng,” listed as the No. 7 most wanted person at the district level for qualified theft. He was arrested during a manhunt operation conducted along Florante Street in Barangay Panginay, Balagtas, Bulacan on March 23.
He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 165, Marikina City, for qualified theft under Article 310 in relation to Articles 308 and 309 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended by Republic Act 10951.
Based on the investigation, the alleged theft occurred on April 3, 2023, while the suspect was working as a house helper for the victim in Barangay Malanday.
Authorities said the victim filed a case against the suspect after he admitted during a confrontation that he took some of the valuables missing from an antique cabinet in the house. Among the items were diamond rings, gold jewelry, watches, and foreign currencies.
The suspect claimed that he only took some of the items and denied taking others. However, the victim sought police assistance, leading to the filing of the case and the eventual issuance of the warrant of arrest against him.
Authorities added that the suspect was the only person left inside the house whenever the victim and his family went away.
He is currently under the custody of the Marikina CPS Custodial Facility.
