Fans of K-pop superstars BTS, the ARMYs, are up in arms against Seth Herzog, the warm-up act of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" for his racist remarks.
“We expect you to be professional @FallonTonight.. your staff dividing the audience based on their looks and the mc making racist remarks towards the artists you invited is completely insensitive and unacceptable..we demand a proper apology and action to be taken on the said staff,” one X user posted.
Another wrote, “Why are you leaving out half the story??? What about when someone asked Seth if he was excited to see BTS and he replied with ‘they don’t even speak English, why would I be excited’???? How about the staff taunting and laughing at army?”
TMZ reported that Herzog’s joke was "Anybody here from the North? No? Nobody?" referring to North Korea.
“The quip was meant to be a riff on the ‘Tell me where you're from’ premise ... but some BTS fans in the audience thought it was targeted at the band, and blasted the MC on X. From there, the BTS fandom went into full attack mode on the show and Jimmy,” the media outlet added.
BTS will be appearing in "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on March 25 and 26.
TMZ added that “Herzog apologized to BTS for the situation ... and network brass spoke to Herzog about the incident.”
Other comments on X are:
- “He could have easily done his homework by (1) checking the bands name and (2)where they're from... considering BTS are the biggest group in the world. He was just expecting BTS fans to warm up to a racist joke? at the expense of our beloved BTS?tf?? Please do better its 2026??”
- “It’s so upsetting that even during a BTS comeback, there’s still someone making tone-deaf, racist jokes. It feels like racism is so normalized, and BTS keep facing this whenever they gain attention in the West. It’s disappointing and hurtful to see them have to deal with this again.”
- “Yah he must apologize via his Twitter account @FallonTonight @Thezog”
