LEGAZPI CITY – The provincial government of Albay, through the Albay Public Safety Emergency Management Office-Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (APSEMO-PDRRMC), has suspended face-to-face classes on all levels and moved to alternative learning methods due to the transport strike scheduled until Friday, officials announced Thursday.
Albay acting Gov. Farida Co, in Advisory No. 2026-07, issued Wednesday afternoon, directed local government units to mobilize available resources to assist commuters affected by the strike.
"All city and municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices were placed on alert and instructed to monitor the situation closely," the advisory said.
The PDRRMO-APSEMO also coordinated with key national agencies, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and Philippine National Police (PNP), for logistical support, including vehicles, to enhance local response efforts.
Several LGUs in the province have issued their own class suspension announcements in anticipation of transportation disruptions.
In a separate interview, Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail said government vehicles, including those from the city government and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), could be used for free rides if needed.
The PDRRMC reminded the public to stay updated on transportation arrangements and alternative commuting options as the strike continues. (PNA)
