On Wednesday, March 25, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares thanked the driver, known as Kuya Andres, for choosing to rescue the snake as his first response rather than killing it.
“Kahit malaki at may dalang panganib, salamat pa rin kay Kuya Andres na hindi niya naging first response na patayin ang naturang sawa kundi i-rescue at dalhin satin (Despite being large and potentially dangerous, we thank Kuya Andres for choosing to rescue the python rather than kill it and for bringing it safely to us),” the mayor said.
Ynares added that the python was later turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Taytay.
Meanwhile, he reminded the public not to kill or harm a python or any other wild animal they might encounter at their homes or nearby areas.
He added that they should instead call the City Veterinary Office (CVO) hotline at 8689-4514 or visit the former San Isidro Barangay Hall at the corner of San Jose Street and Lorenzo Sumulong Memorial Circle for proper rescue and handling.
