BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) is investigating a suspected case of seafood poisoning that affected six family members in Barangay Singcang-Airport here.
A report from the CHO said the family collected seashells and cooked them for lunch on March 20.
Hours later, the 44-year-old mother and family members aged 25, 21, 20, and two minors aged six and 17 experienced food poisoning symptoms that persisted throughout the weekend.
On March 22, three family members sought medical attention for symptoms at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Two were admitted while the third was treated as an outpatient. As of March 25, one remains hospitalized.
The CHO collected specimens from patients for testing. Two members did not exhibit diarrhea symptoms.
Oral rehydrating solution and medication were administered to those affected and water sanitation and disinfection were advised.
The CHO reminded the public to practice proper hygiene, proper food handling and preparation, and proper waste disposal.
