Energy conservation measures ordered in PNP offices amid oil price, supply woes
Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered all chiefs of police and unit commanders to tighten energy and resource consumption amid rising global fuel and utility costs.
But Nartatez emphasized that conservation will focus on camp operations as he assured that it will not compromise frontline services.
“We have been optimizing our resources based on the existing policies and additional measures that include regular monitoring of our fuel and power consumption. Efficiency is our priority,” Nartatez said.
As part of austerity measures, he said PNP logistics units are reviewing all non-essential travel to save on fuel.
Nartatez said the police organization will also conduct internal audits of camp expenditures to identify areas for cost reduction without affecting operational capacity. Logistics and supply chains for food, fuel, and utilities will be optimized nationwide.
Despite the new conservation rules, Nartatez assured the public that the quality of police services will not be affected.
“I assure the public that our peace and order mandate will not be affected despite these energy conservation measures. Our quick response time remains. We are cutting costs in the offices and headquarters so that we can keep our patrol cars running on the streets,” he said.
“Public safety remains our priority. Despite our efficiency measures, response times and police services will not be compromised,” he added.
