Albert Magdaraog, the 27-year-old suspect tagged as the primary suspect in the robbery-slay of former policeman George Capistrano, admitted to killing the victim and selling his jewelry following his arrest on Tuesday, March 24.
During Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso's "Talk to the People" program on Facebook where he presented Magdaraog to the public, the suspect said he was the one who shot the victim, who also served as Domagoso's security aide, and took his jewelry and firearm last March 15 in Balut, Tondo.
Magdaraog said he and his cohort, Liegem Bulalacao Young, who served as the wheelman in the robbery-slay, sold Capistrano's stolen ring and bracelet for P600,000.
Young first surrendered to the police following the mayor's 48-hour ultimatum and P500,000 reward money for their arrests.
Magdaraog explained he was terrified from surrendering after finding out that Capistrano was a former police officer of the Manila Police District (MPD), forcing him to hide in different parts of Luzon, including Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, and eventually Laguna, where he was arrested on March 24 together with Maria Cristina Anduyan.
Police said Anduyan harbored Magdaraog when he was on the run from the authorities.
"Sa pagkakaaresto kay Magdaraog, ganap nang nabigyan ng hustisya ang pagkamatay ni Capistrano, na naging matapat na alagad ng batas at naglingkod sa Maynila nang mahabang taon (With Magdaraog's arrest, we have finally given justice to the death of Capistrano who became a loyal law enforcement officer and served in Manila for many years)," Domagoso said.
