The iconic Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house in Quezon City has officially closed its doors, ending a 21-year run as both a beloved reality TV landmark and an unofficial tourist destination, as the show prepares to move to a brand-new location.
Laurenti Dyogi, head of TV Production and Star Magic, confirmed the closure at a farewell gathering attended by staff, show hosts, and ABS-CBN executives, as reported by ABS-CBN News.
"It’s time. This is the time that we officially say goodbye to the house. We've sustained this for 21 years. Years back, I’ve been seeing the possibility of moving out of this property. But the collab happened with Channel 7, so I found a good reason to keep the house," director Laurenti said during the interview.
Built in just three months, the PBB house broke ground in May 2005 and was ready in time for the show’s debut in August of that same year.
Spanning 1,400 square meters, the original house featured two bedrooms, one bathroom, a garden, a pool, and 26 cameras capturing every moment around the clock.
Following two successful editions of "PBB Celebrity Collab" with GMA 7, questions turned to where the next season of the reality show would be staged.
"For the coming season, it’s good to have a new feel naman for the new housemates. We’ve decided to move it and build a new PBB house, abangan nila kung saan 'yung new PBB house," he said.
Despite the move, the show’s future remains secure — ABS-CBN continues to hold the franchise license, and a new season is already in the works.
"We still have the formal license for a couple of more years, so talagang may aabangan pa ang mga tao, kung saan. Kung kailan, malapit na 'yan, so abangan ninyo ang open auditions for the new season. (Our license is still active for the next couple of years, and excitement is already building. Open auditions for the new season are just around the corner — stay tuned!)," the director said.
