29 women PDLs in Caloocan receive free legal assistance from LGU

A total of 29 women persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Caloocan City Police Station–Custodial Facility Unit (CCPS-CFU) received free legal assistance from the city’s Legal Department as part of the activities for International Women’s Month.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, the initiative provided legal advice to the detainees regarding the cases filed against them, with the aim of making government services accessible even to vulnerable sectors.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said the city remains committed to upholding justice while ensuring that the rights of individuals, especially those under preventive custody, are respected.
We always say that there is no place for crime and violence in our city, especially against those who abuse children and women. However, while we continue to enforce the full force of the law against crime, we must not lose respect for the human rights of every individual, particularly due process and the presumption of innocence),” Malapitan said.
The mayor added that the city government continues to address the root causes of crime.
We believe that the city government and the CCPS will not be effective in fighting crime if our policies are purely responsive and serve only as band-aid solutions. That is why we are focusing more on addressing the root causes of crime, such as poverty, discrimination, abuse, and lack of proper education),” he said.
