The Quezon City Government has implemented a temporary engine shutdown policy for its QCity Bus units as part of broader energy conservation efforts.
In an advisory, authorities said bus engines will be turned off while vehicles are waiting for passengers, parked, or stationed at terminals to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
In accordance with government policies on energy conservation, the QCity Bus engine is temporarily turned off while it is waiting for passengers, parked, or at the terminal),” it said in an advisory on Tuesday, March 24.
The engines will only be restarted shortly before the scheduled departure of each trip, prompting guidance for commuters to time their boarding accordingly.
The bus engine will be restarted at the scheduled departure time. Therefore, passengers are advised not to board the bus until it is closer to the scheduled departure time),” it added.
The city government also warned that the temporary shutdown may affect airflow inside the vehicles while waiting.
Also expect that the ventilation inside the bus may be affected as it is turned off while waiting for the scheduled departure time),” it said.
Authorities are calling on the public for understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that the move supports ongoing efforts to conserve energy and protect the environment.
We ask for your understanding and cooperation in implementing energy conservation measures),” it added.
