House Assistant Majority Leader Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong has thanked President Marcos for keeping up the momentum of the Marawi rehabilitation efforts.
"On behalf of the people of Marawi and the entire province of Lanao del Sur, we thank President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for placing the completion of Marawi's rehabilitation at the top of the national agenda," Adiong said in a statement.
"Simula pa noon ay hindi nakalimutan ng ating mahal na Pangulo ang Marawi (Even back then, our beloved President has never forgotten about Marawi)," noted the Mindanao lawmaker.
During the recent Economy and Development (ED) Council meeting, President Marcos directed the accelerated implementation of the Reconstruction and Development Plan for a Greater Marawi (RDPGM) Stage 2.
This phase prioritizes the restoration of critical transport infrastructure, energy and water systems, and the rebuilding of livable communities in the city still recovering from the 2017 siege. The plan covers the rehabilitation and construction of 26.59 kilometers of roads, bridges, drainage systems, and slope protection works under the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (BMCRRP).
Adiong says Marcos' clear instructions to expedite RDPGM Stage 2, evaluate the feasibility of finishing key components by 2028, secure sustainable funding, and resolve procurement bottlenecks reflect a firm commitment to delivering justice and full recovery to our people.
"These steps provide much-needed momentum and hope to our displaced families and communities after years of delays," reckoned the "Young Guns" bloc member.
It was May 23, 2017 when an estimated 1,000 ISIS-inspired Maute Group terrorists occupied Marawi City in Lanao del Sur. The Philippine military drove the terrorists out after a grueling five-month battle that left the Islamic city in shambles.
Marcos' directives are seen to accelerate the timeline as several sub-projects under the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (BMCRRP) remain ongoing.
Key completed and delivered facilities include permanent shelters, power supply systems, Marawi City General Hospital, Port of Marawi City, Marawi Dansalan Integrated School, Marawi Central Fire Station, and Grand Padian Market with an ice plant.
Of the seven roads, bridges, drainage, and slope protection sub-projects, two roads are finished, while five continue (three roads, one viaduct, and six bridges). The faster pace will especially benefit ongoing efforts like the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) bulk water supply project, targeted for completion in May 2026.
Adiong also welcomed the administration's focus on building resilient infrastructure and supporting economic recovery across the region, consistent with the broader vision of inclusive national development.
"Restoring Marawi goes beyond physical structures—it means returning dignity, mobility, and opportunity to our people. President Marcos' direct involvement and firm orders show that the national government remains fully committed to fulfilling its promise to rebuild even in our most affected areas," he said.
The Marcos Administration has demonstrated consistent support through various initiatives, including the ongoing work of the Marawi Compensation Board (MCB), which has released significant funds for siege victims—such as over P3.85 billion disbursed to processed claims as of early 2026, with additional budget allocations like the approved P2 billion for the Marawi Compensation Program in FY 2026 to advance fair and transparent payouts.
