While many animals involved in road accidents are often left without help and die alone, a stray dog in Pasig was rescued and given urgent medical attention by veterinary staff who voluntarily stepped in after a motorcycle accident on Sunday, March 22.

In a viral video uploaded by James Nacionales, a motorcycle rider was seen lying on the road with the motorcycle tipped over nearby, while a dog could be heard crying after reportedly being hit by the rider along C. Raymundo Avenue in Barangay Caniogan.

“Kanina habang naglalakad ako sa gilid ng kalsada, biglang may narinig akong malakas na semplang ng motor (not sure kung anong nangyari). Pero ang mas pumukaw ng atensyon ko, yung iyak ng isang aspin na nadamay sa aksidente. Ang sakit lang marinig (Earlier, while walking along the side of the road, I suddenly heard a loud crash of a motorcycle (I’m not exactly sure what happened). What caught my attention even more was the cry of a stray dog that got caught in the accident. It was heartbreaking to hear),” Nacionales wrote.

Later in the video, a man identified as Nix Laulong, a veterinary assistant from nearby Animales De Compania Veterinary Hospital, was seen crossing the road, lifting the dog in his arms, and immediately bringing it to their hospital for treatment.

“Pero saludo ako sa isang staff ng pet hospital malapit sa area. Kahit hindi niya kilala kung kanino yung aso, hindi siya nagdalawang isip tumulong. Agad niyang binuhat at dinala sa clinic nila yung kawawang aso para maagapan (I salute a staff member of a nearby veterinary hospital who, even without knowing the dog’s owner, did not hesitate to help, immediately lifting the poor dog and bringing it to their clinic for urgent care),” Nacionales added.

“Sa totoo lang, bihira na yung ganitong klaseng malasakit ngayon. Kaya sobrang nakakabilib. Grabe yung puso niyo para sa mga hayop. Sana mas dumami pa yung tulad niyo (Honestly, this kind of compassion is rare these days. That’s why it’s truly impressive. Your heart for animals is remarkable. I hope there are more people like you),” the uploader continued.

However, the veterinary hospital said that despite their best efforts, the dog’s internal bleeding and the severity of the impact were too severe for him to survive.

“While we are saddened by this loss, we are honored to have provided him with a dignified and compassionate presence in his final hours,” it said.

The hospital said that, in line with their mission to provide compassionate veterinary care, they took care of all medical and aftercare expenses for the dog.

They also asked that those who offered financial help consider instead redirecting their kindness to local animal rescuers in their communities who are in need.

On the other hand, it is unclear whether the rider and his passenger received any medical attention, as they reportedly left after recovering.

Laulong, meanwhile, urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the road, especially when animals suddenly cross, not only for the safety of the animals but also to help drivers avoid possible accidents.
