Choco Mucho overcame ZUS Coffee’s tough defensive stand to pull off a hard-fought 21-25, 25-22, 13-25, 25-11, 15-11 victory and stay in contention in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday, March 24.
The Flying Titans kept their composure as the Thunderbelles threatened a comeback, trimming a 4-12 deficit to 9-12 behind a string of solid blocks before Kat Tolentino and Sisi Rondina steadied their ship and closed out the win.
The victory eliminated ZUS Coffee and arranged them a next knockout duel against the Akari Chargers.
Sisi Rondina caught fire on the offensive end, unloading 26 kills to finish with 27 points, while Maddie Madayag rediscovered her old form and added 19 points built on 14 attacks and three blocks.
“It’s been a past struggle for us but ngayon iba na yung mindset nung team and I’m just glad with this win,” said Madayag.
Eya Laure came off the bench in the second set and went on to score 13 points for the Flying Titans, while Kat Tolentino took charge of their defense, finishing with 12 points including two blocks on top of 10 digs.
ZUS Coffee tried to bank on Thea Gagate and Riza Nogales particularly in the pivotal fifth set, but came up short despite scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively.
