Easterlies bringing warm, humid weather; localized rains, thunderstorms to persist — PAGASA
Expect warmer and more humid conditions across the country as easterlies continue to prevail, a day after the official onset of the warm and dry season, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, March 24.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will be the dominant weather system affecting the country in the next 24 hours.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Northern Samar and Eastern Samar, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides in affected areas.
Torres added that some areas in Northern Luzon may still experience northeasterly winds in the next few days.
She also said that despite the country’s transition to the dry season, tropical cyclones may still enter or form within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
PAGASA announced the end of the northeast monsoon season, or “amihan,” on March 23, marking the start of the country’s warm and dry season characterized by higher temperatures and increased humidity.
