Artists and guests gather at SM Podium to celebrate Sining Filipina 2026
In celebration of Women’s Month, SM Supermalls, in partnership with BDO Unibank Inc. and the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, presented “Sining Filipina 2026: Babae Para sa Bayan: Women Leading Change from Home to Nation.” Now in its third year, the initiative continues to highlight Filipina voices in art, drawing 250 entries from across the country this year.
Organizers, judges, guests, and winning artists celebrate Sining Filipina 2026: Babae Para sa Bayan: Women Leading Change from Home to Nation at SM Podium, honoring women’s voices and creativity nationwide.
The event, which took place on March 12 at SM Podium, brought together members of the arts community alongside prominent figures from the business sector and the diplomatic corps. Among those present were Senator Risa Hontiveros; SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. president and chairperson Elizabeth Sy; SM Supermalls executive vice president for Marketing Joaquin L. San Agustin; and Zonta Club of Makati and Environs president Joanne Zapanta-Andrada.
“At SM Supermalls, being the most-loved mall means using our scale with purpose,” Joaquin said. “We open our spaces to voices that matter. We create platforms where women are seen, heard, and celebrated.”
The program’s highlight was the awarding of this year’s winners. Manila-based artist Marte R. Goyon took home the grand prize for her oil painting “Helping Hands.” Mary Joy B. Go of Bulacan placed second for “Liwanag ni Maria,” while Gerlynnia Aprille B. Galgo of Cebu City came in third for “From Home, Outward.”
Seven finalists were also acknowledged on stage: Melissa P. Guevarra, Anna Katrina P. Pallon, Jirah D. Labanza, Alice B. Mendoza, Krizzia P. Purog, Ruth Ann Roco, and Isabelita M. Rodillo.
Also present as the competition’s judges were Tin-Aw Art Gallery founder and director Dawn Atienza; Metropolitan Museum of Manila trustee Louie Bate; Project Space Pilipinas in Lucban founder Leslie de Chavez; Manila-based realist artist Alfredo Esquillo Jr.; Linangan Art Residency founder Manny Garibay; Christie’s Asia Consultant Angela Hsu; and internationally acclaimed Filipino contemporary artist Ronald Ventura.
“We sincerely appreciate the dedication of SM and BDO in supporting ‘Sining Filipina’ over the years, helping us manage entries from across the nation, from Aparri to Basilan,” Joanne said.
The ceremony also marked the opening of an exhibition featuring 56 shortlisted works, displayed at the mall’s L2 Atrium. The collection offers a glimpse into how Filipina artists interpret identity, labor, and everyday life—shaped by their own experiences and communities. This year’s edition also included select works by persons deprived of liberty from the Women’s Correctional Institution, adding another layer to the exhibition.
“When women are given a voice in our laws, when women are given platforms like this art competition, when women are given access to the opportunities that we have always deserved, we do not just empower our sisterhood—we strengthen the entire country,” Senator Risa reminded everyone.
