BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city is working closely with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to facilitate the repatriation of 16 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the Middle East.
City Administrator Mark Mayo, in a media interview, Monday, March 23, said the affected workers are based in Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
According to Mayo, they have expressed desire to return home and have reached out to the city for assistance.
Mayo said that Mayor Greg Gasataya is assessing the extent of support the local government can extend to them.
Coordination with relevant national government agencies is ongoing to ensure a smooth process.
As of March 20, the OFW Help Desk at the Bacolod City Government Center has received more than 160 calls and continues to assist more concerned individuals.
Most of the inquiries come from relatives of OFWs in the Middle East, seeking financial aid or guidance in case of job displacement.
