One of the four armed suspects reportedly involved in the P10 million jewelry heist in the town of Calumpit was arrested on Sunday, March 22, in a follow-up operation conducted by the Bulacan police.
Based on the report of Lt. Col Leopoldo L. Estorque Jr., chief of the Calumpit police to Col Angel L. Garcillano, Bulacan police director, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 21, around 7:20 pm inside the house of a jewelry merchant at La Residencia Subdivision, Brgy. Balite, Calumpit, Bulacan.
Based on CCTV footage, authorities identified the vehicle used by the suspects and conducted a verification process at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to determine the registered owner of the said vehicle.
Calumpit municipal police operatives immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation in collaboration with the Regional Special Operationd Group, Regional Investigation Division, Regional Intelligence Unit PRO 3, and Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Unit.
During the operation, the registered owner of the vehicle from Parañaque City was tracked down and arrested.
The suspect was immediately taken to the police station, wherein the victim and witnesses positively identified the said individual as one of the four armed holdup men who entered their home and threatened them. No one was hurt, but the jewelry, money, and cellphones were stolen.
The case of robbery in band is being prepared in accordance with Article 296 of the Revised Penal Code against the suspect to be filed at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Malolos, Bulacan.
The Bulacan PPO said such crimes have no place in the province. "Patuloy ang aming operasyon upang matunton at maaresto ang lahat ng sangkot sa insidenteng ito.
