THE Senate deliberates on MORE Power and other power conglomerates of the Razon Group in the Visayas. (MORE Power)
ILOILO CITY – The Senate is reviewing the proposal to expand Razon-owned MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) in southern Iloilo province.
The Senate Committee on Public Services chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo has started deliberations on the matter.
The panel is looking into the legislative measure authored by Iloilo first district Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin amending Republic Act No. 11918 – the expansion of MORE Power into the second and fourth districts of Iloilo.
RA 11918 was enacted into law in 2022, amending RA 11212 passed in 2019 that made MORE Power the sole power distributor in Iloilo City.
During a recent Senate deliberation, MORE Power President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Castro highlighted improvements since taking over Panay Electric Co. (PECO) in 2020 as Iloilo City’s sole power distributor.
MORE Power was able to grow its consumer base in Iloilo City from 62,000 to 107,000.
Castro also noted that they were able to reduce system loss from approximately 28 percent to about five percent.
MORE Power was also able to reduce the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) and System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) by over 90 percent.
MORE Power formally started its expansion in Iloilo province with private consumers in Pavia town receiving services.
Castro also presented the improvements of Primelectric subsidiaries Negros Power in Negros Island and Bohol Light in Bohol.
