Sam Kieth, the co-creator of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" run and the creator of "The Maxx," has passed away. He was 63. Sam succumbed to complications related to Lewy body dementia (LBD) last March 15.
News of his death was confirmed recently by fellow comic book artist Kelley Jones. "Sam Kieth, my old friend since 16 and comic art genius has passed away. He was instrumental in bringing me to DC and changing the course of my career," shared Kelley via Twitter. "He also introduced me to my wife (a cute little blond he described her as) and changed the course of my life."
Sam is best known for bringing Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" run to life with his otherworldly style. He later moved on to create his own comic, "The Maxx" over at Image Comics. It was then adapted into an MTV animated series. Hollywood even garnered interest toward the project, with Channing Tatum revealing his involvement with a movie adaptation for Paramount Pictures.
Other notable projects Sam has worked on include some runs of iconic Marvel characters like Wolverine and The Hulk. He also co-wrote the pilot episode of Cartoon Network's "Cow and Chicken" series.
