The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Marinduque has reported that the locally extinct Philippine deer has been sighted again in the province.
The PENRO said this is proof that nature is recovering in the area but increased care and protection of wildlife is still needed.
It is considered endangered and harming, catching, and killing it is strictly prohibited under Republic Act No. 9147. Violators face imprisonment and fines.
Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary-Protected Area Management Office rangers continue to monitor habitats of the Philippine deer in the province.
The PENRO-DENR appealed to the public to protect and not harm the animal.
