QC rolls out new parking system in Tomas Morato-Timog areas

The Quezon City government began its dry run of new public parking regulations on Monday, March 23, along Tomas Morato Avenue and Timog Avenue.
This new initiative aims to better utilize the public spaces located in the Tomas Morato-Timog district, as this place is considered one of the city’s busiest commercial and nightlife hubs.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the rollout is a crucial step in making commercial districts more orderly and inclusive.
“As we improve and beautify our commercial areas, we must also ensure that public spaces are used fairly and efficiently. This parking system is about creating order, improving access, and making our streets work better for everyone,” she said.
During the trial period of the new system, parking will remain free and available on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum time limit of three hours to allow more motorists to access limited parking.
The Quezon City Transport and Traffic Management Department (TTMD) will lead the implementation of this program.
After a vehicle is parked, a parking ticket will be issued to the driver indicating their time of entry. They are expected to vacate their slots within the three-hour limit.
For vehicles that would exceed the allowed duration will be issued a notice of violation in line with dry run guidelines which must be settled at the TTMD main office.
Motorists are reminded that only authorized TTMD personnel are allowed to issue parking tickets and no fees will be collected during the dry run. Any unauthorized collection must be reported immediately.
The pilot will run until the passage of the proposed Public Pay Parking Ordinance, which will institutionalize a regulated parking system in the area.
The new parking program is part of the city’s QC ReVibe program that identifies and revitalizes key commercial areas.
Among the improvements done in the city include rehabilitated roads and sidewalks, installation of tactile paving, upgraded street lighting, and the clearing of obstructions to reduce safety risks and urban clutter.
The QC government eyes improved infrastructure, safer walkways, and more accessible public spaces through the QC ReVibe program.
