Magtipid! DILG Taguig advises LGU on energy conservation measures
The Taguig Field Office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has advised the local government unit on energy saving measures amid the fuel price hike resulting from the conflict in the Middle East.
“In line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. under MC No. 114, the DILG has issued Memorandum Circular No. 2026-023 to help optimize our public resources and safeguard our national energy security,” the Taguig Field Office announced on March 23.
It said the target reduction is a 10 to 20 percent decrease in electricity and fuel consumption.
The DILG-Taguig listed measures to accomplish these.
- Set air-conditioning thermostats to a standard 24°C.
- Activate "sleep settings" on all office equipment and switch off non-essential lights during lunch breaks and after hours.
- Adopt Virtual Meetings as the default mode for coordination and consultations.
FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS:
- LGUs are encouraged to implement a four-day onsite work arrangement and one day of work-from-home or a compressed workweek to reduce operational footprints.
FUEL & TRANSPORT EFFICIENCY:
- Transition to electric or hybrid vehicles (targeting a 10% EV fleet requirement under the CREVI).
- Implement strict trip consolidation and route optimization to minimize fuel use.
COMPLIANCE & REPORTING:
- Designate an Energy Conservation Officer (ECO) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
- Submit monthly consumption data through the GEMP Online System Portal.
“Let us work together to ensure a stable energy supply while maintaining the continuous and efficient delivery of government services to the people of Taguig,” it said.
